Today we ask you to join us in celebrating four outstanding individuals who are retiring from Niagara Catholic today.
John Crocco, Yolanda Baldasaro, Frank Iannantuono and Scott Whitwell have given more than a century’s worth of combined experience and expertise to Niagara Catholic. While their roles as half of Niagara Catholic’s Senior Administrative Council were different, each brought something distinct to the students and families we serve.
Mr. Crocco has spent almost his entire career at Niagara Catholic, serving in a number of different capacities before being appointed Director of Education on September 1, 2008. He spearheaded a number of Board initiatives, including an elementary dress code, the Elementary Student Senate, and the addition of elementary chaplaincy leaders. He also championed the creation of the Niagara Launch Centre, the Pope Francis Centre and the Saint Kateri Centre. He has been Niagara Catholic’s most vocal cheerleader, and his efforts have led to national and international recognition for the Board.
Yolanda Baldasaro joined Niagara Catholic in 2002, and has been a Family of Schools Superintendent of Education since 2008. She has served students with special needs and their families and most recently led the Program and Innovation portfolio.
Frank Iannantuono joined Niagara Catholic in 1991, and has been Superintendent of Education since 2003, serving as a Family of Schools Superintendent of Education before taking over the Human Resources Services portfolio for the final years of his career.
Scott Whitwell has been Controller of Facilities Services since 2012. He has led a team of staff who ensure that all of our schools and sites are safe, clean and healthy for students and staff each and every day.
Each has been dedicated to the vocation of Catholic education throughout their careers with Niagara Catholic, and we are all the better for the contributions they have made to our schools. These last five months have no doubt been the most unusual of their careers, and today is no doubt one of mixed feelings for them. One last phone call. One last meeting. One last walk out the door before driving home to begin new journeys in retirement. Normally, we would see them off in Niagara Catholic style, but we will have to settle for a more low-key way of wishing them well on whatever winding path life takes them on in the years to come.
John, Yolanda, Frank and Scott – thank you for all that you have done for Niagara Catholic. Thank you for your commitment, caring and dedication, and for the many ways you have enriched the lives of your students – many of whom went on to become colleagues, and thank you for all you have done to promote Catholic education in Niagara.
On behalf of the entire Niagara Catholic family, may you each enjoy long and happy retirements. May you find joy in each day, and never stop learning, and may you continue to be blessed with good health and good friends as enjoy the fruits of your labours.
Due to the pandemic, we have been unable to send John, Yolanda, Frank and Scott off in true Niagara Catholic fashion. However, please see our retirement celebration update to keep you posted on when we can honour them in the way they so richly deserve.
