When Sienna Reich heard about what was happening in Ukraine, the Grade 6 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Elementary School in Niagara Falls student was moved into action. She immediately reached out to principal Jeff LaFontaine and asked if they could to a walkathon to raise money to help people affected by Russia’s invasion of the country and plans were made to put the event into action.
On May 6, students from across the school were joined by Niagara Catholic Director of Education Camillo Cipriano, Superintendent of Education Gino Pizzoferrato, Our Lady of the Scapular pastor Father Paul MacNeil, and Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati to walk in support of Ukraine. In all, the event raised approximately $1,000, money that will be sent to Ukraine to help those in need. More importantly, though, it raised awareness about the war that has raged in the country since February. You can read a story about the event here.
