On Saturday, May 7, Niagara Catholic Speech-Language Pathologists Lori DiMatteo Marcella, and Kavitha Harrington participated in the country’s first conference focused on selective mutism, which was held at Brock University.
The purpose of the conference brought together experts on selective mutism from Canada, the US, UK, and Sweden to share their journeys and explore best practices for addressing selective mutism. The conference was the first in the world to focus on how technology can support children and those impacted by selective mutism.
Our speech paths presented a poster session during the conference, which was attended by several Niagara Catholic families, and two of our families led the parent panel about their journey with selective mutism.
