Catholic Education Week/Mental Health Week
The Niagara Catholic District School Board believes in the strong connection between faith and mental health. Our Mental Health Lead and our Board Chaplaincy Leader frequently collaborate on projects and programs and lead our Compassionate Response Team in times of crisis.
It is fitting that Catholic Education Week and Mental Health Week align on the calendar, and for the past several years, Niagara Catholic has built upon this perfect fit to celebrate both together.
This year’s theme for Catholic Education Week is Rebuild, Restore, Renew Together, and the theme for Mental Health Week is empathy.
Throughout the week, we will offer social media posts for Catholic Education Week in the morning, and Mental Health Week in the afternoon. We encourage everyone sharing Catholic Education Week or Mental Health Week activities on social media to @niagaracatholic (on Twitter) and @niagaracatholicdsb (on IG) and to use the hashtags #NiagaraCEW #CEW2022 and #RebuildRestoreRenew.
Schools have a variety of different events and activities planned for Catholic Education Week, including a special presentation by Catholic speaker and musician Chris Bray focusing on sharing our gifts to restore, renew, and rebuild ourselves, our relationships with others, and with God, but there are a number of things that are unified across Ontario, including:
Prayer for CEW 2022
God of Grace,
Help us to rediscover how to be side by side
in rebuilding our communities of faith and learning.
Help us restore harmony and balance in our relationships,
and renew our desire to approach challenges confidently and with peaceful hearts.
May we always rejoice in recognizing the blessings our lives hold.
A province-wide unified Mass will be livestreamed on Wednesday, May 4 from St. Michael’s Basilica at 10 a.m., led by Cardinal Thomas Collins. You can watch the livestream of the Mass here, or watch it later through their Mass video archive.
“I have found the coin that I lost.” Lk. 15:9b
“Rebuild the house of the Lord.” Ez. 1:3
“The God of all grace will restore, support, strengthen, and establish you.” 1 Pt. 5:10
“The Lord your God … Will rejoice over you with gladness, he will renew you in his love.” Zeph. 3:17
“Be glad and rejoice, for the Lord has done great things!” Joel 2:21
Catholic Education Week is celebrated at schools across Ontario through the leadership of the
Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association. Learn more about OCSTA here.
For Mental Health Week, Niagara Catholic is holding its annual contest for students. This year, students are encouraged so share an original work of art – a photo, short story, poem, painting, video, or song – about what they are doing to improve their spiritual or mental well-being. Submissions are open until May 27, and students may submit as many entries as they’d like. We will announce the winners in June.
We also encourage students to talk about how they have shown – or received – empathy through social media posts, tagging @niagaracatholic/@niagaracatholicdsb and using the hashtags #NiagCatholicMWH and #GetReal.
Mental Health Week is a program of the Canadian Mental Health Association. Learn more about CMHA here.
