June is Pride Month in Ontario. Niagara Catholic recognizes the struggles that members of the LGBTQ community have endured in the past, and that many continue to be marginalized today. There are more than 21,000 students and 3,000 staff in the Niagara Catholic family; a community that celebrates, respects and protects diversity; with many identifying as part of the LGBTQ community. We love and respect all of our students, staff and extended family equally, and strive to support all students and staff every day of the year. Our Catholic schools and offices are committed to nurturing a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.

Jesus the Good Shepherd loves and cares for all members of His flock, that everyone needs love and care. In our Catholic schools and offices, every day provides us with an opportunity to reflect upon the ways in which we can ensure that all of our students, staff and parents feel safe, welcomed and valued, unconditionally. As Catholics and followers of Christ, we believe that each of us is made in the image and likeness of God. We are called to see each other through God’s eyes – with sensitivity, compassion and respect – and we see God in one another; wonderfully made, just as we are.

These beliefs are fundamental to the Catholic Social Teachings and the Catholic Graduate Expectations, and are echoed in Niagara Catholic’s Mission, Vision and Values and Strategic Directions, which focus on equity, inclusion, belonging and the dignity of all people.
